Doris Dill Holaday

Doris Dill Holaday formerly of West Windsor Township, New Jersey, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 at 5:55 pm at St. Vincent Hospice in Carmel, Indiana. She was 87 years old. Doris was born on September 9, 1924 in Seattle, Washington to Roy and Olive Dill. She grew up in Kirkwood and Glendale, Missouri, attended Duke University and Washington University in St. Louis with a degree in English and Foreign Languages. She furthered her education in Fashion Merchandising and worked in that field in New York City for several years. She returned to St. Louis where she met and married Kenneth M. Holaday, Jr. of Webster Groves, Missouri. During their marriage of 55 years, they lived in Chicago, where their two sons, David and Steven, were born, In Connecticut, where their daughter, Laurel, was born, and then in New Orleans and Atlanta, before settling in West Windsor Township, New Jersey where they lived together 38 years until Ken passed away in 2006. Not long after moving to New Jersey, Doris went back to school and earned her Masters degree in Library Science from Rutgers University and had a 20 year career as a high school librarian in the Somerville school district. Most recently, Doris resided at The Stratford in Carmel, Indiana. Doris' greatest joy in life was her personal relationship with Jesus Christ that manifested itself with a passion to serve and be a blessing to all those around her. She loved to cook and bake, entertain, and travel throughout the country on family vacations, her most favorite spot being Mt. Rainier. She is survived by David and his wife Linda, Steven and his wife Jean, and Laurel and her husband Ron Tiemens, 16 grandchildren, and by her dear cousins Jack Fitch of Ballwin, Missouri and Jeanne Adams of Benton, Arkansas. A memorial service will be held at Flanner and Buchanan, 325 East Carmel Drive, Carmel, Indiana with a calling at 10:00 am and service at 11:00 am. A graveside memorial service will be held at Greenwood Cemetary, Hamilton, New Jersey at 11:00 am on January 28, 2012.
