Doris C. Maroney

Doris C. Maroney died January 19, 2016 surrounded by herfamily. She was born in Lucama, NC tothe late Walter H. and Pearl B. Blalock and grew up on a livestock and tobaccofarm. The Blalocks were a recognized MasterFarm Family in North Carolina. Doris wasvery close to her late brother, Carlton Blalock (1924-2014) and her survivingsister, Sara Munford.

She attended Lucama High School and Eastern CarolinaTeachers College, currently East Carolina University. After college Doris taught for 5 years at theOxford Orphanage, in Oxford, NC. She marriedRobert L. Maroney in 1946 and they were married for 61 years.

Community was important to Doris. Throughout her life, she worked tirelessly tobuild and foster meaningful relationships with her neighbors, her church,Indian Lake Country Club and her family. Doris was a 50-year member of theCrossroads Guild, where she served as a past president and received the “Heartof Gold” award. She also served as apast member of C.V.A., was an active member at St. Mark’s United Methodistchurch in Carmel, IN and an avid supporter of the Carmel Public LibraryFoundation.

Doris was a devoted sister, mother, wife, grandmother, andgreat grandmother. She is survived byher two daughters, Linda S. Kennen (Duane) and Marsha C. Gardner (Stephen), herson Robert M. Maroney (Roxanne), her sister, Sara Munford, seven grandchildren,and eleven great grandchildren.
