Doralee (Smith) Phillips
was born on December 19, 1925 in Kokomo, IN to Rudolph M. Smith & Annalee (Hollins) Smith. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, November 11, 2012.
She attended Todd County High School in Kentucky, graduated from Crispus Attucks in Indianapolis where she continued her collegiate studies in the field of accounting.
Doralee had a successful career as an accountant working as the Assistant Business Director at Flanner House and the Community Action Against Poverty. She was the Business Director at Indianapolis Preschool Centers and Community Services for the State of Indiana. She completed her career path at The Department of Finance before retiring from the Internal Revenue Service.
Doralee was a longtime devoted member of Our Savior Lutheran Evangelical Church where she served as a Treasurer and Auditor and was a member of the Stewardship Board as well as the Fellowship Circle. She had a very active social life and was a founding member of the Zoisines.
A devoted wife to her husband, Alonzo (Steve) W. Phillips (predeceased), Doralee always put her family first. She was the caretaker to many and always a blessing to everyone she came in contact with. Her smile would radiate a room and her since of humor and hospitality will live in the hearts of all of those who were blessed to be in her presence. She was extremely creative and would sew custom made items for those she loved. Her numerous arts and crafts dawned every room in her home and her delectable dishes and baked goods could never be duplicated. She was a true lady at all times, beautiful both inside and out.
Doralee is survived by her daughters, Tena (Kimbrough) Blakemore and Deborah (Phillips) Byrd as well as her older brother, Theodore R. Smith of Cleveland, OH. She was blessed with 5 grandchildren, Tonya Reynolds (Richard), Kenyada White (Ike), LaRae Byrd (Gerriale), LaKeem Byrd, and Kashani Byrd, as well as a 11 great grandchildren and a host of step and neighborhood children.
