Donald A. Wellmann

March 27, 1942 — December 27, 2025

It is with profound sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of our remarkable dad, Donald A. Wellmann. Don was a devoted husband of 61 years to our mother, Dianne, and a loving patriarch.

He passed away December 27, 2025, leaving an enduring legacy of love and devotion in the hearts of his family, his greatest source of pride. He was deeply cherished and will be greatly missed by his wife, Dianne (nee Hopley); his children, Dondi (David) Tate, Amy (Tom) Franks and Todd (Julie) Wellmann; his grandchildren, Jordyn (Josh) Bailey, Hillary (Matt) Hollenbaugh, Evans Tate, Trace (Reagan Riddle) Wellmann, Jake (Kassie Cash) Wellmann, Matthew Franks, Benjamin Franks, and Sam Wellmann; his great-grandchildren, Beau, Leo, Emma, Eli, and Kylar (and two great-granddaughters on the way); and his cousin Vicki (Ted) Peters.

Our father was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he'll be laid to rest by his parents and his grandparents in a private family ceremony. After graduating from Indian Hill High School in 1960, he went on to the US Naval Academy where he served our country with great distinction, particularly in the avionics arena. While his 20+ year military career took him to numerous postings, our parents retired in Indiana, a state they considered home; here, they nurtured friendships and community spanning over 40 years.

We shared Dad with many special people who also thought of him as an uncle, a father figure, a surrogate "Papa" and a trusted mentor. We look forward to sharing many happy memories with everyone at an upcoming Celebration of Life in Indianapolis.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Don's honor to Wounded Warrior Project (Wounded Warrior Project - Donate) or a veteran's organization of your choice.
