Donald V. Stuck
82, Shelbyville, loving father, sportsman and noted businessman, died September 22, 2011. He was born October 30, 1928, in Indianapolis to Fred Myles Stuck and Edna (Kingery) Stuck. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janice (Claywell) Stuck, on March 22, 2007, just months short of their 60th wedding anniversary. He was also preceded in death by his younger brother and sister, Robert "Ducky" Stuck and Virginia Mattingly Ketner. He is survived by his children, Darlynn "Dede" (Steve) ¬¬Freeman, Shelbyville, IN; Karen Stuck (Jay) Arnold, Burke, VA; and Donald (Veronica) Stuck II, New Palestine, IN; grandchildren: Steve (Melissa) Freeman Jr., Cindy (Mike) Clapp, Jessica (Jerry) Hawk, Donald (Kathy) Stuck III and Jordan Stuck; step-grandchildren Brittny Gabbard, Brady (Mary) Clapp, Carmen Harris and Jessica Brown; great-grandchildren: Grant Freeman, Madison Freeman, Garret Freeman and Aaron Hawk; and step-great-grandchildren: Kaiden Gabbard, Madelyn and Brayden Clapp. Don was a 1946 graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School. Following graduation, he went to work for his family's business, Stuck's Best Coal and Oil Co., delivering blocks of ice and truck loads of coal in the Indianapolis area. He worked his way into management of the company and eventually ownership. He was president of Stuck's Best Oil Co. and the Irvington Coal and Oil Co. from 1973 to 1990. He also was vice president of the L.H. Smith Oil Corp. in the 1970s. He was a member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge No. 715, the Scottish Rite and the Shrine. He was on the board of directors of the Indianapolis Coal Merchants Association and the Oil Field Institute of Indiana. Don was an avid sportsman. He was the Indiana State Table Tennis Association singles champion in 1946. He also was the runner-up in the Indianapolis City junior singles tennis championship in 1946. He loved poker and golf (+1 handicap). He played on the Howe High School golf team and was the state A flight champion in the Indianapolis City tournament when he was in his 20s. He was one of the early founding members of the Heather Hills Country Club and served on its board of directors. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center at Washington Park East, with visitation from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 26. Entombment will be at Washington Park East Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association. Don lived life to the fullest, was known as "Big D" to a lot of people and was a popular addition to the morning radio program of his son, Don Stuck, at X103. He will be missed greatly by family and friends.
