Donald Robert Russell

Donald Robert Russell, 67, of Carmel, Indiana died Thursday, September 25, 2014, at IU Health North Hospital. Born October 30, 1946, in Newville, Pennsylvania, he was the eldest son of the late Marlin and Martha Russell. He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1964, and received a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Mathematics and Chemistry from Shippensburg University. He worked in the areas of statistics and quality assurance until he retired earlier this year, including jobs that moved his family to both Australia and Russia. He was a member of Christ the Savior Lutheran Church, Fishers, Indiana, where he served in many positions: as an usher, as a very involved member of the Prayer team, as a participant and leader of Dominican Republic mission trips, and as Church President. He enjoyed traveling, skiing, golfing and playing cards. He loved his wife, his family, and his Lord. Surviving is his wife of 45 years, Frances M. Russell of Carmel, Indiana; his brother, G. Steven Russell of Woodbridge, Virginia; two daughters: Jennifer L. Augustine of Severna Park, Maryland and Elizabeth M. Ellis of Fishers, Indiana; one son, David I. Russell of Indianapolis, Indiana; and four grandchildren: Juliana and Jenna Augustine, and Sara and Kathryn Ellis. Don truly epitomized Christian leadership. He was loved by all who met him, and was patient, kind, and faithful in all things. His beautiful, giving spirit will be profoundly missed by all those in whose love he lived.
