Donald Robert Houterloot

Donald Robert Houterloot; age 77 of Carmel, Indiana passed away on September 3, 2011. He was born on September 8, 1933 to the late Michael J. and Grace Frances (Braunius) Houterloot in Patterson, New Jersey. Don earned his Bachelors Degree at Tri-State University in Angola, Indiana in 1960 in Civil Engineering. He started his career with the State of Indiana within the Department of Transportation in 1965 , was a certified Professional Engineer and retired in 2003 after 38 years of service to the state. Don also served proudly in the United States Army. He met his wife Julia (Pontius) in Northern Indiana and they married on October 8, 1960. Don was a family man who loved music , travel, along with any and all of the activities his family members were involved in. He is survived by his wife Julia of 50 years and their two children - his son Tim and his wife Lisa along with his daughter Laura and her husband Pete Jakositz. He has five loving grandchildren Megan, Hunter, Jenna, Trent and Madison. He is also survived by his two sisters (Janet Underwood and Grace and her husband Harvey Springer) and a brother Nicolas. Preceding Don in death are his two brothers Bernard in 2002 and Michael J. in 2011. Funeral services wil be held on Thursday September 8, 2001 at 11:00 am at Flanner Buchanan Funeral Centers-Carmel. 325 E. Carmel Dr. Carmel, Indiana 46032. Friends and family are invited to gather on Wednesday September 7, 2011 from 4-8 pm at the same Flanner Buchanan site in Cermel. Entombment will be held at the Oaklawn Memorial Gardens .
