Donald Eugene Smith, 75, of Greenfield, passed away on Sunday, October 9, 2016. He was born on May 3, 1941 in Linton, IN. Don retired from the Indianapolis Fire Department Station 25 in 1999 after 32 years of service. He also was an excellent handyman and master tile layer. Don was an avid hunter and was known as an all-around good guy; a beloved husband, son, dad, papaw and brother. He is survived by his mother, Wilma L. Smith; wife of 48 years, Patricia Smith; brothers, Robert Smith of Heritage Lake and Tom (Deb) Smith of Martinsville; step-sister, Betty Jane McFarland of Elizabethtown, KY. Also surviving are daughters, Julie Mace of Greenfield, Tammie Fogolin of Indianapolis; son, Donald H. Smith of Greenfield; step-children, Marki (Dick) Haynes of Georgetown, TX, Mitchell Matthews of Indianapolis, Terri (Tony) Williams of Carthage and Robert (Londa) Matthews of Indianapolis. Don is also survived by his best friend and buddy, a Chocolate Lab, Seymour. He is also survived by his 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his father, Fred H. Smith. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 from 4-8pm at Flanner and Buchanan – Memorial Park. Funeral services will take place on Thursday morning at 10am, also at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Don’s wishes are that donations be made to the Greenfield Hancock Animal Management in gratitude for his boy, Seymour.
