Obituary

Donald Raymond Duncan, age 92, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2026, in Fishers, Indiana. He was born on September 29, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Don graduated from Ben Davis High School and, at just 17 years old, answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in October 1950. He proudly served as a tank mechanic during the Korean War era and was honorably discharged in October 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. His service to his country remained one of his greatest sources of pride throughout his life.

On March 1, 1957, Don married the love of his life, Willa Jay Duncan, in Indianapolis. Together they built a loving family and shared 64 wonderful years of marriage, creating a lifetime of cherished memories filled with devotion, laughter, and unwavering commitment.

Don dedicated 50 years of his career to the steel industry, where he earned the respect of coworkers through his strong work ethic and dependability. After retiring from the steel industry, he wasn't quite ready to slow down. He enjoyed working alongside his son, Jim, lending a helping hand in Jim's medical business before retiring for good.

In 2009, Don and Willa fulfilled a longtime dream by retiring to Lakeland, Florida, where they enjoyed the sunshine and a slower pace of life.

Don embraced life's simple pleasures. He was an avid sports fan, rarely missed watching Fox News, and was deeply patriotic. His love for the United States Marine Corps never faded, and he proudly carried the values of honor, courage, and commitment throughout his life. He also had a fondness for trips to Las Vegas, where he could often be found happily trying his luck at the slot machines.

More than anything, Don will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. His quiet strength, steadfast loyalty, sense of humor, and generous heart touched everyone who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, love of family, and service to his country that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Don is survived by sons, Jim (Lee), Jay (Kendall), grandchildren Drew, Demi, Grady, and Lily and great granddaughter, Sadie, who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Willa Jay Duncan.

A celebration of Don's life will be held on Friday, July 24 at 2 pm at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens (Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Road, Fishers. His family finds comfort in knowing that his legacy lives on through the lives he touched and the values he instilled in those he loved.

Semper Fidelis, Sergeant Duncan. Your duty is complete, but your memory will endure forever.
