Donald 'Don' Cavanaugh

Donald "Don" Cavanaugh, 93, of Greenfield, passed away March 6, 2014. Don was born May 9, 1920 in De Smet, South Dakota to the late John and Mildred Cavanaugh. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Helen; daughter, Sandy Ertel; three grandchildren, Allen Hill, Mike (Lisa) Fleetwood, Kristi (A.J.) Lewman; five great grandchildren, Isabel, Amelia, and Clara Fleetwood, Kayli and Lexi Lewman. He was preceded in death by his son, Mike L. Fleetwood, two brothers, Leigh and Dale. Don was retired from the National Automatic Sprinkler Local Union 669. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Don served on the U.S.S. Nields during World War II. He was also a member of the VFW #2999 and American Legion (Leo Welch chapter). He enjoyed playing softball and golf, and enjoyed watching baseball on TV. He also watched Jeopardy and loved sweets, especially chocolate. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 10, 2014 from 12-2 PM followed by a service at 2 PM at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street.
