Donald W. "Schoppy" Schoppenhorst 86 of Indianapolis died February 18, 2012. Donald was born on August 30, 1925 in Indianapolis to William Oakley and Carmen (Taylor) Schoppenhorst. Donald served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII where he was involved in the first wave during the invasion of Iroshima. Donald was affectionately known as "Schoppy" where he worked at Allison a Division of General Motors for 40 years retiring in 1989 from plant #3 in Speedway where he was a tool and die grinder. Donald was a member of the Charles F. Frank Masonic Lodge #760 F. & AM in Zionsville. He was also a member of Horizons of Faith United Methodist Church. Donald was an avid fisherman, hunter and outdoorsman where he enjoyed camping with his family and built the family camper. Calling will be held Tuesday February 21, 2012 at Flanner and Buchanan-Washington Park North 2706 Kessler Blvd West Drive Indianapolis, IN 46228 from 4 to 8 PM with a Masonic Service Tuesday Evening at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday February 22, 2012 at 11 AM at the Funeral Center. Entombment will be in Washington Park North Cemetery. Donald is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth "Betty" Eileen (Guion) Schoppenhorst which they married June 19, 1949 at Bethel United Methodist Church in Indianapolis 63 years ago. Donald is also survived by their children Norman (Suzy) Schoppenhorst, Allen (Crystal) Schoppenhorst and Gary Schoppenhorst, five grandchildren Kathie Morris, Patrick Schoppenhorst, Sara (Tom) Wright, Anna Schoppenhorst and Greg Shelley and three great grandchildren Zachary Morris, Shiloh Schoppenhorst and Chloe' Wright.
