Donald Baxter Hogan

Donald B. Hogan, 86, of Indianapolis and Kiawah Island, SouthCarolina passed away February 3rd, 2016.

Don was born September 11, 1929 in Farmersburg, Indiana to thelate Pat and Pearl Hogan. Don issurvived by his loving wife, Linda and sons Dr. Kevin Hogan, Patrick Hogan andhis wife Andrea, Grandchildren Jacob (Jen), Lauren and Henry Hogan; brother JoeHogan; sister-in-law, Peggy Swalls; nieces Sharon Hogan and Gwen Hogan; andgreat nephew Scott Smith along with several life-long friends including ShirleyWible. He was preceded in death bysister, Rose Marie Dickey.

A graduate of Farmersburg High School and Indiana StateUniversity, Don was proud of earning his Master’s Degree from Duke Universityin education.

Don’s careerwas varied and included being a naturalist, a pharmaceutical salesman and ateacher. The majority of hisprofessional life was spent with the Indiana State Teacher’s Association wherehe served in the Legislative Department as a lobbyist. He was instrumental in getting manyeducational bills passed in the state.

Don enjoyed vacationing in the continental United States, Hawaiiand Europe. In his younger years, he wasan avid hunter and fisherman. He took pleasure in traveling with and watchingPatrick play on legendary golf courses in the United States and Scotland. Most mornings in retirement began withbreakfast with friends at the Binford Café. In his later years, healso enjoyed traveling to Kiawah, SC where he treasured spending time with hissons and especially their grandkids. Additionally, Don was an active member of St. Luke’s United MethodistChurch in Indianapolis, the National Education Association and the Indiana StateTeachers Association.

Even in passing, in his continuing want to make a difference, Donwas a tissue donor. A celebration oflife will be scheduled at a later date at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church inIndianapolis. Cremation services handledby Flanner and Buchanan- Zionsville.
