Dolores Rose Gieseke “Do” Stoltenberg passed away September 24, 2021. She was born February 25, 1931 to John and Amanda Gieseke and grew up in Roselle, Illinois where her parents owned a hardware store. She graduated from Glenbard Township High School and worked as a secretary until her children were born and then part-time for her husband until his retirement.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband William C. Stoltenberg, Sr. of 41 years, her parents and her siblings. She is survived by her children Christy L. Stillions (Larry) and William C. Stoltenberg, Jr. (Jana). She had five grandchildren: Jared Stillions (Donna), Bill Stoltenberg III (Michelle), Abby Reynolds, Katie Polster (Dustin), Lisa Stoltenberg, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Do was a lifelong volunteer for various organizations such as Girl Scouts, the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. She helped in the gift shop at the Indianapolis Museum of Art. She knitted caps for cancer patients. She was a longtime and a very active member of Servants of Christ Lutheran Church.
Dolores loved to travel, whether it was day trips on Ambassadair or cruises to the Caribbean, Alaska and up the Mississippi. She visited Europe several times and also the Holy Land. She saw the four corners of the United States and much of the country in between.
Do was a bowler when she was younger and then took up golfing. She was a skilled bridge player and enjoyed Mah-jongg with the “Ladies of the Round Table”. She was a longtime member of the Garden Club and Embroiderers Guild of America where she met good friends, the “Stitching Bags”. She was known for her excellent cooking and loved to entertain, especially with the “French Lick Slicks”.
Dolores was a dog lover. She and her chocolate poodle, Godiva, were inseparable for many years. She spent many seasons tailgating at Purdue football games and attending the Indianapolis 500.
Her children and grandchildren remember how loving and supportive she was of them no matter the circumstances. Memories of family taco nights and holiday meals will live on. Her family always knew they were loved and loved her in return. Grandma Do will be sorely missed by her family, one and all.
Visitation will be October 6 from 11:00 to 1:00 with a 1:00 funeral service at Servants of Christ Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to Servants of Christ.
