Dianne L. McGill

Dianne McGill (née Toney), of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on September 11, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and friends following a brief illness. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Dianne leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, creativity, and countless sweet memories.

Dianne was born in East Chicago, Indiana, on December 3, 1951, to Max and Jean (née Arbuckle) Toney. She was raised in Crown Point, Indiana, where she began a life defined by creativity, humor, and a deep love for the people around her.

Dianne attended IUPUI and went on to earn her law degree, practicing law in Indianapolis before making the decision that meant the most to her: staying home to raise her children. She cherished being a mother and considered caring for her family one of the greatest joys of her life.

She was especially delighted by her role as a grandmother. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and she treasured every opportunity to love, encourage, support, and make memories with them.

Dianne had a creative spirit and a gift for making ordinary things beautiful. She loved crafting, scrapbooking, and making handmade cards to send to the people she loved. She was also famous among family and friends for her cookies and other sweet treats—made frequently and given freely because Dianne loved showing people that she cared.

Giving came naturally to her. Dianne was generous with her time, her talents, her home, and her resources. She made sure the people she loved most wanted for nothing, and she had a way of making others feel cared for, remembered, and loved. Her kindness was often expressed in small, thoughtful ways that meant so much.

Dianne is survived by her husband, Dan McGill; her daughter, Rebecca McGill-Baker, and her husband, Nathan Baker; and their sons, Nikolai and Samuel Baker; her son, Ben McGill, and his wife, July McGill; and their daughter, Abby; siblings Carol Lower and Philip Toney. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Maddie, who brought her great companionship and joy. Additionally, she leaves behind a vast family and community of in-laws, nephews, nieces, and friends too numerous to mention here, but nonetheless close to her heart. Among those lifelong friends was Cindy Lumpkin, Dianne’s dear friend of more than 30 years, with whom she shared an extraordinary friendship filled with laughter, memories, and steadfast love and support.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Jean (née Arbuckle) Toney.

Those who knew Dianne will remember her not only for the things she made, baked, gave, and did for others, but for the love behind them. She had a remarkable ability to turn a card into a keepsake, a cookie into an expression of affection, and a gathering into a memory. Her greatest creation, however, was the family and circle of loved ones she nurtured so generously.

Dianne will be deeply missed and forever loved. May the love she gave so freely continue through all those whose lives she touched.

Visitation for Dianne will be Friday, September 18th, from 5-7pm at Flanner Buchanan-Geist. Additional visitation will be Saturday, September 19th, from 10-12pm, with her funeral service beginning at 12pm. She will be laid to rest at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens following the service. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Down Syndrome Indiana or Gigi’s Playhouse Indianapolis, organizations supporting individuals with Down syndrome and their families.
