Diane Marie Tiefel

Diane Marie Tiefel, 61, of Westfield, Indiana, passed away on December 16, 2025. She was born on April 21, 1964, in Indianapolis, to the late Charles F. and Marie Elizabeth Smith.

Diane brought a rare combination of warmth and excellence to everything she did. In her career, she was a dedicated, skilled, and loyal accounting professional, earning deep respect and lasting friendships with colleagues who valued both her work and character. Those who worked alongside her knew they could count on her completely.

Outside of work, Diane’s world revolved around the people and animals she loved. Her home was a haven for cats—she shared her life most recently with twelve beloved companions, including Marie, Endora, Charlie Snugbug, Molly, Waldo, Clara, Esmerelda, Garfield, Lizzie, Maurice, Priscilla, and Tabitha, each one cherished. Diane treasured time spent with family and friends, bringing her fun-loving spirit and genuine care to every gathering. And, as a devoted Trekkie, she found timeless joy in Star Trek and could discuss the merits of each series with enthusiasm and encyclopedic knowledge.

Diane is survived by her brothers, Charles Wayne (Sandy) Smith and Richard Dale Smith; nieces, Angie (Bill) Witham-Dugdale and Melissa (Rick) Bousman; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and her beloved cats. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 26, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., with a funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m., at Flanner Buchanan – Broad Ripple, 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hamilton County Humane Society in Diane’s memory.
