Dennis R. Jackson

May 22, 1955 — May 11, 2024

Indianapolis, Indiana

Dennis R. Jackson, 68, of Indianapolis, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024, following a long battle with lung cancer. He was born in Decatur, IN, on May 22, 1955, to the late Richard L. and Josephine A. Jackson.

To say the least, Dennis contained multitudes. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother; a lifelong member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church; an HVAC technician who specialized in repairing industrial and commercial installations; a handyman extraordinaire and near-constant tinkerer who seized every opportunity to fix anything; and an avid tennis player, swimmer, skier, and fan of auto racing. In his later years, he spent as much time as he could playing with his beloved granddaughters, Grace and Amelia, and going for walks with his granddog, Reggie, the only dog he ever liked. He drank black coffee at all hours and looked forward to unwinding with a cold Miller High Life at the end of a long workday.

Dennis is survived by his wife of 43 years, Renae (Mazelin) Jackson; his son, Christopher D. (wife, Molly) Jackson; his granddaughters, Grace R. and Amelia M. Jackson; and his siblings, Mary Ann Meyer, James Jackson, Jerry (wife, Kayanne) Jackson, David (wife, Melinda) Jackson, Dan (wife, Karin) Jackson, and Richard T. (wife, Becky) Jackson. His sister, Julie Johnson, preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at:

Haggard Hirschy & Zelt Funeral Home

225 West Adams Street

Decatur, IN 46733
