Denise Short

Denise Short, 68, of Camby, Indiana, passed away on August 26, 2025. She was born on November 13, 1956, in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania, to parents, Don Thomas Vining and Joan (Letcher) Vining.

Denise graduated from Yorktown High School in 1975. Throughout her life she had many roles: nurturing big sister; ever-dependable friend; euchre partner; admirer of the great outdoors; accidentally legendary adventurer; beach bum; swim teacher; dedicated working mom; scout leader; family event planner; fearless roadtripper; patient and steadfast partner to her cherished husband; ardent supporter and caretaker of her children; and a devoted Mamaw. To her friends, she was a trusted confidante and honorary sister.

Denise will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, her unwavering support for her family, the caring communities that she built everywhere she lived and worked, and her ability to make everyone feel welcome and loved. She strived every day to be the best wife, mother, and aunt that was humanly possible. She loved every creature on earth but was terrified of spiders, yet she never harmed even those – that was Tim’s job.

She is survived by her loving husband, Timothy “Tim” Short; children, Jordan Short, Natalie Short, and Annika Short; grandchildren, Calvin Short and Jack Hutson; and siblings, Beverly Sass, David Vining, Don Vining Jr., and Robert Allen Vining; and treasured friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, September 15, 2025, at Flanner Buchanan – Hamilton Memorial Park (Prairie Waters) – 4180 Westfield Rd., Westfield, IN 46062, with a memorial gathering to follow until 4 pm.
