Delton Zelfer Rush, 'Delt', passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2014 in Indianapolis, IN. He was from Bryant, AL. He served as Sargent in the Korean War from 1952-1954, and then in the Army Reserves.
Delton was a skilled welder, and when he retired from Stuart Warner, he worked for many years for his friend Jim Hynes, at Hetzco. He traveled all over the world, welding and teaching the craft to others. When he retired again, he moved back to Bryant, AL, and started a farm on the old home place.
His two biggest hobbies were fishing and woodworking. I'm sure everyone has a few fishing stories to tell. During the winter, when it was too cold to work on projects in the shed, he wove seats and backs in his chairs, and did beadwork. Lots of beadwork.
No matter where he was, you would find a Boston terrier in tow. At first Mandy, and then it was Bucky. He loved animals of all kinds. His wife Jean, even used his rabbits to 'woo' him when they first met. :)
He is survived by daughter, Patricia (John Charlesworth), grandchildren, Brandon Burch and Gina (Kenneth Whaley), Great-grandchildren, Gabrielle Bowen, Kenny Whaley, Katherine Whaley, Kevin Whaley, and Kerri Whaley, sister-in-laws, Lucille Watson Rush, and Betty Willis Deweese, nieces, Beverly (Tom Knox), Neva Howell, Debra (Lennox Charles), Brenda Price, Carol (Richard Thompson), Cindy Baker, Anita, Shirley (Donald Baughn), Patty (Gary Bomian), Bobbie (Dale Huckabee), Kathy (Jason Nichols), and nephews, David 'Big Dave' Howell, Carmen Rush Jr. (Kathy), RC Rush, David Howell (Deborah), and Mike Howell.
He was preceded in death by wife, Gearldine 'Jean' Rush, brothers Jack Rush, and Carmen Rush, sister, Mary Oline Rachels, brother-in-law, Martin 'Bo' Rachels, parents Rufus Caifus Rush and Pauline Pate Rush.
Alzheimer's/Dementia is simply just cruel. If you would like to donate to the Alzheimer's Association on Delton Rush's behalf, our family would be eternally grateful. Alzheimer's is believed to be a hereditary disease, and I would never want anyone else to watch their loved one suffer from this disease.
