Delroe Heffernan

October 5, 1930 — September 6, 2014

Delroe L. Heffernan 83, of Indianapolis died Sept. 6, 2014. He was born in North Bend, Wisconsin and raised in Melrose, Wisconsin. He proudly served in the US Air Force and retired from Naval Avionics in 1991 where he worked as a machinist and machine shop foreman for 35 years. In his retirement, he enjoyed tilling gardens and spending time with his family. He was a member of the American Legion Post 186. He and his wife, Kathy, enjoyed square dancing for 11 plus years. He influenced legions of White River little league baseball players coaching teams there for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and the love of his life, Kathryn Heffernan, to whom he was married to for 58 years. Survivors also include sons Tab (Cherie) Heffernan, David (Teresa) Heffernan, daughter Karen (Jerry) Padgett, 9 grandchildren (Nathan, Andrew, Katie, Kelly, Jill, Stacey, Christopher, Thomas, Patrick), 5 great grandchildren (Alice, Zoey, Kason, Haddie, Abigael), brother Dallas Heffernan, sisters Dorothy Schroeder, Phyllis Gieseke, and Gloria Hulett, He was preceded in death by his parents, son Jon, brother Don, sisters Belva, Virginia, and Lilah. He took his last breath after a valiant 10 year battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family in his home of 58 years. Visitation will be Friday, Sept 12th from 5pm to 8pm at Allisonville Christian Church. Funeral services will be Saturday Sept 13th at 10am at Allisonville Christian Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Allisonville Christian Church. Arrangements are being handled by Flanner and Buchanan-Broad Ripple.
