Delores J. Leigh, 86, lifetime resident of Indianapolis, passed away March 17, 2019. Delores was born to the late James Phillip and Hazel Norene Shelby on December 13, 1932. She went on to graduate from Arsenal Tech and shortly after, married the love of her life Charles William Leigh.
Delores raised three loving children and took pride in her home. Her children remember her diligent work to keep the home tidy, along with her love for yard work. She would mow the lawn as well as tend to her famous rose bush wall spanning the entire fence line. Delores was known to paint furniture and other items for a pop of color or just for a change in the home. She was the infamous cook of her family and was known for her signature dishes including chili and prune bread.
Delores had a servant’s heart and was known to help others in any way she could. In her free time, she worked at a local school in the cafeteria.
Delores is survived by her three cherished children, Mark (Carolyn) Leigh, Lori (Jeff) Charleston, and Lisa (James) Neely; grandchildren, Jennifer, David, Rachel, Emily, Scott, Chad, Tasha, and Robby; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Arloa Dooley.
Delores is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Charles William Leigh and 6 siblings.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer’s Association.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 21, 2019 from 11-1PM with funeral services beginning at 1PM at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Arrangements entrusted to Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East.
