92, of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on April 20, 2016in presence of family. Rex was born onNovember 21, 1923 in Oakfield, Wisconsin to Arthur and Erna Reklau. At age 19, he enlisted in the Air Force andserved for 3 years, becoming an aircraft navigator and rising to the rank ofSecond Lieutenant. At the end of WorldWar II, he married Betty (Rader) Reklau, whom he had met at a New Year’s Evedance at Butler University where he was enrolled in Air Force training classes. They settled in Indianapolis and raised 3children during their 50 year marriage. Rex always enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked andputting them back together. Using these skills, he worked as a foreman inprecision engineering and machining plants for 20 years each at BuehlerCorporation and at Naval Avionics, both major Indianapolis employers. For over 20 years following retirement, Rexvolunteered extensively at Community North Hospital.
Rex was a member of King of Glory Lutheran Church. Rex is survived by sons David (Conni) Reklauand Gary (Mary Ann) Reklau; daughter Nancy (Denny) Wilson; 9 grandchildren and5 great grandchildren; and his wife, Helen Vandevender. In addition to his parents and former wifeBetty, he was predeceased by sisters, Vivian Smith and Helen Schmidt.
Visitation will be held at Flanner & Buchanan –Washington Park East, 10722 East Washington St. Indianapolis; from 10:00 to11:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, with services to follow at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be madeto Community North Hospital Cancer Center.
