Del Poynter, 80, Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, January 27, 2014.
He had served in the U.S. Air Force and had retired from Allison Transmission in 1993. After retirement he worked for several companies transporting trucks. He was a trucker at heart.
Del took pleasure in square dancing, traveling, backpacking, hiking, and spending time in the woods. As a private pilot, he also enjoyed flying.
He was a member of Cathedral of Prayer Baptist Church, Indianapolis Masonic Lodge #669, UAW Local #933, and Scottish Rite.
On May 15, 1954, Del married Alice Eileen Robertson, who survives him. Del is also survived by his children, Valerie Sue Hilgert, Jonathan, Jeffrey and Kevin Poynter; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Loyd and Laura Poynter, sister, Joyce Belt, and his brothers, Charles Poynter and Forrest Warren.
The funeral for Del will be held Friday, January 31 at 1 PM at Cathedral of Prayer, 8446 E. Co. Rd. 700 S., Plainfield, with visitation there on Thursday, January 30, from 4 to 8 PM. Burial will take place at Stilesville Cemetery following the Friday funeral service.
