Deja Samone Jones, 15, passed away on April 21, 2013 at Riley Children's Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. Deja was born on June 7, 1997 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Marcus Allen and Cathy (Williams) Jones.
Deja grew up in Warren Township, Indianapolis, IN. She attended Warren Central High School, where she enjoyed playing softball, volleyball, and being a part of many other organizations with her fellow students. Not only did she play softball for school, but for Indy Edge, a renowned, well-known travel softball team with amazing coaches, mentors, teammates, and friends.
She enjoyed life, laughter, and the game. By the game, not only do I mean softball, volleyball, wrestling, football, or any other sport that she loved and excelled in, but in the game of life. Deja lived, played, and passed with pure fight and intensity running through her big, brown, smiling eyes---those eyes that lit up the world, as her smile greeted you when she walked into any room. With her sassy and fresh humor, sincere optimistic views on life, and abundance of laughter, it's not surprising that she has influenced so many people throughout our community, state, and nation. Only at the youthful age of 15, Deja is a role model; a hero to us all.
Deja is known for outstanding excellence on the diamond. She was physically and mentally strong, enthusiastic, and eager to succeed, not only making her an outstanding player, but a team mate, a friend, and an opponent. Deja's skills were greatly noticed, but her modesty is what truly gained the attention of fans, coaches, and other teams. She played hard, and played well. So hard indeed, that she would come home from tournaments covered literally from head-to-toe in red dirt and deep green grass stains; ultimately giving her the all-famous nickname of "Piggy". Deja knew she was an outstanding player. She was well aware of her talent, but this level-headed young lady never let it go to her head. She respected the game. She loved the players. Deja was softball. Once she was asked, "How much do you like playing softball?". Her answer couldn't be more appropriate. Deja proudly stated, "Softball is my life". Indeed it was, and indeed it will continue to be in her honor. We truly appreciate and honor all the memories, friendships, and life skills that helped shape Deja into the beautiful, smart, and talented young lady.
This bubbly little girl, who loved zebra print, bright colors, boys, and the game, may not be here with us physically, but she is spiritually. For those of us who got to celebrate the last 15 years of life with her are truly lucky for we will be able to forever carry her in our thoughts, hearts, and memories. Deja, we love you. We ALL love you. Rest in Peace Angel.
Deja was preceded in death by her grandfather Edwin "Buddy" L. Williams.
Deja is survived by her parents, Marcus A. Jones and Cathy L. Jones; her sisters, Diamond S. Jones, Destiny S. Jones, and Devonna S. Jones; and her grandmothers, Dennie R. Jones and Carol L. Williams.
