Debra S. Christiansen was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend. She passed away too soon in her Carmel home on February 26, 2022 at the age of 68.
Deb was born on November 12, 1953 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Delbert and Madelene Schertz. She spent her childhood in Ottumwa, graduating from Ottumwa High School in 1971. After high school Deb attended the University of Northern Iowa where she met the love of her life, Ken. She graduated with a degree in education in 1975 and married Ken on June 19, 1976. Together, they had two sons.
Deb’s entire career was spent in education. She was a teacher, an aid, and an office administrator for several schools in three different states. Through her career she touched and improved the lives of countless people. Deb loved to travel and visited many countries with family and friends. She was an active grandmother who was always attending a game, playing cards with the kids, or encouraging arts and crafts. She enjoyed warm weather and the beach.
Deb is survived by her husband of 45 years, Kenneth; two sons, Kurt (Pamela) of Plymouth, Indiana and Benjamin (Leanne) of Noblesville, Indiana; five grandchildren, Jack, Sarah, Cora, Joseph, and Owen; mother, Madelene Schertz; three siblings, Dennis (Patricia) Schertz, DeeAnn Duree, and Amanda Schertz; three nephews and a niece.
Family and friends are invited to gather from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, March 6 at Flanner Buchanan- Carmel. A funeral service will be held Monday, March 7 at 10:00 am at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, of which she was a member.
