Debbie Gonzales

August 25, 1951 — March 4, 2016

Debbie K. Gonzales, 64, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016, at her home in Indianapolis. Debbie was born on Saturday, August 25, 1951, in Ludington, Michigan, to the late Anthony (Tony) William and Elsie Levange (Brimmer) Kucinsky. She grew up on a farm and loved horses, picking blueberries, and going to Lake Michigan with her sisters.
Debbie met her husband, Andres (Andy) Joseph Gonzales, while writing letters to soldiers serving in Vietnam. She married him soon after he returned from the war and regarded him as the love of her life up to the day she died, being very proud to be the wife of a veteran. They moved from Chicago to the East side of Indianapolis in the late seventies and raised their two children Kimberly and Luis there.
Primarily a homemaker and caregiver for her husband when he fell ill, Debbie also periodically worked outside the home part-time. Kim and Luis recall that, during their childhood, their favorite job of hers was at Godfather's Pizza. She enjoyed volunteering and found value in just about any object she came across. Having a keen eye for hidden treasures and diamonds in the rough, she was an eclectic collector of anything she could embellish with rhinestones and love.
Debbie used her valuable hunting skills to give back to others. About a year ago, she heard about a young man who wasn't going to be able to go to his prom because he couldn't afford nice clothes. She not only found him a good quality tuxedo but also found enough for three of his friends. Additionally, she helped a youth organization by supplying refurbished military garb for ROTC kids. Debbie also routinely honored those she had known that had passed away by seasonally decorating their final resting places with flowers, ribbons, and vases she had found and enhanced. These are just a few example of her generous nature. She had an open heart and was very giving of her time.
A prayer warrior to the core and an avid student of Bible scriptures, Debbie felt an extremely strong connection to her faith and God. She often mentioned looking forward to meeting her Lord one glorious day and, although her family and friends will miss her dearly, they are confident that she couldn't be in a happier place.
Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, and a brother, Johnny Kucinsky. Surviving to cherish her memory are her children, Kimberly (Dave) Huizinga, and Luis Gonzales; her grandchildren, Andy Gonzales, Gabriel Fleck, Alexandra Fleck, Samuel Huizinga, Anthony Gonzales, and Arabella Gonzales; and her sisters, Sharon Snoddy, Mary Clark, Martha Thorne, and Josephine Carter.
Services will be held at Flanner and Buchanan – Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis IN 46229. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 10, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be on Friday, March 11, 2016 at 10:30 a.m.
