DeAnna K. Lowry, 69, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born to parents Kenneth Ray Newton and Betty Josephine Frazier in Indianapolis, Indiana on February 18, 1956.
DeAnna was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and community leader. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, James Lowry; her children, Katherine, Steven, Michael and Daniel Lowry; and her beloved grandchildren, Blair, Nicholas, Sarah, Brooke, Madison, Isabelle, and Sydney.
DeAnna dedicated over a decade of her life to public service through her work in Lawrence city politics, including her role as City Council President. Her leadership left a lasting impact on the community she cared deeply about. A woman of faith and compassion, DeAnna was also an active volunteer within her church, supporting inner-city congregations and city outreach programs. She had a gift for helping others—family, friends, and strangers alike—and was known for her selflessness and unwavering belief in making a positive difference in the lives of those around her.
She was the heart of her family and found great joy in celebrating those she loved. She loved nothing more than bringing people together, especially when it came to hosting family gatherings and celebrations. Her creativity made every occasion memorable—she delighted in inventing games, planning activities, and making sure there was laughter and fun for everyone.
She also cherished preserving family history. A gifted scrapbooker and dedicated genealogist, she found joy in documenting milestones and tracing the stories of generations past, ensuring her family’s memories and legacy would endure.
DeAnna’s legacy of love, service, and kindness will live on in all who had the blessing of knowing her. Gone too soon, she will not be forgotten.
A visitation service will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025 at 11:00am - 1:00 pm at Flanner Buchanan- Oaklawn Memorial Gardens followed by Memorial services starting at 1pm.
