Dean J. Kyle

August 15, 1956 — May 22, 2026

Dean Johnson Kyle, 69, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 22, 2026. He was born on August 15, 1956, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to his parents, Donald Dean and Phyllis Junella (Johnson) Kyle.

Dean grew up with a deep love for family and a strong work ethic. He graduated from Northwest High School in Indianapolis in 1974 and earned an associate degree from Indiana Vocational Technical College in 1976.

Dean built a career marked by his expertise and broad knowledge of the common and skilled trades. He was known to his colleagues as an inventive craftsman, and a trusted expert and authority on all trades. He spent his early years working as an HVAC specialist, plumber, electrician, and carpenter, and finished his career consulting as an occupational safety and health coordinator.

Dean married Kathleen M. (Feaster) Kyle on December 8th, 1984. They spent 41 years together loving and laughing while making unforgettable memories with their family and friends. Their love was built on mutual respect, honor, and devotion. Together they raised twin sons, Randy and David, to become outstanding and honorable men.

Dean is survived by his dear and loving wife, Kathy; his aunt Joyce (Johnson) Neideffer; his brother, David Donald (Jodie) Kyle; his son, Randal Scott (Heather) White; his son, David Leroy (Mel) White; his nieces and nephews, Kelli Leanne Kyle, Holli Renee Kyle, David Donald Kyle II, and Adam Dean Kyle; his granddaughters, Makayla (White) Winters, Amanda (White) Burkebile, and Tristan White; his great-grandchildren, Xavier and Izabelle; and his great-nephew, Weston.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Phyllis.

Dean was a gentleman and will be remembered for many things by many people. He was a man of chivalry, etiquette, and social grace. He was neat, clean, and white. Dean was never undone.

Dean operated with urgency and was always there when you needed him - his willingness to help when called upon was his backbone and he never let you down. He was more than generous with his time, effort, and financial ability. His calm and steady presence always brought comfort to everyone around him. Family always came first.

Dean grew up quickly at the age of 9 when his father passed away while his mother was carrying his unborn brother. From the date of his father’s passing in 1966, he loved and cared for his mother in sickness and health without regard until her passing in 2015, and likewise with his little brother until last Friday evening.

Dean’s grandfather, Harold Elvin Johnson, was his most looked-up to role model and Dean emulated his example. Dean was very proud that his grandfather was an accomplished auto mechanic and an original “Doctor of Motors”, and from an early age Dean had a passion for automobiles and motorsports that lasted his entire life.

Dean loved collecting model cars and nostalgic automobile memorabilia. He built model cars with such detail, precision, and accuracy, that they became works of art worthy of display. He had the same passion for restoring Wheelhorse lawn tractors. He loved making an engine run that previously did not. If he couldn’t make it run, nobody else could. He collected guns and enjoyed squirrel hunting at home, and target shooting wherever he could.

Dean loved his neighbors and long-time friends like brothers and sisters. He enjoyed catching up and wanted to know you were in good health and good spirits and when you weren’t, he prayed for you. When he heard a good joke or thought of something funny, he told you – he wanted to see you smile and hear you laugh, and he wanted to laugh with you. He loved you.

More than anything, he loved his wife, Kathy.

Dean was a member of the Indiana Freemasons Mystic Tie Lodge No. 398; a 32° Mason and member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of the Valley of Indianapolis; a member of the Murat Shriners; and a member of the Buick Car Club of America. He had the distinction of serving as the Murat Veteran’s Car Club President in both 1999 and 2004.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 1, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery.
