Davis L. Milner, known to many as Davey or Dave, born in Beech Grove, Indiana on December 31, 1940, left this world for that eternal fishing pond in the sky on Saturday, March 30, 2024. His death came rather suddenly to those who loved him. He was 83 years of age.

Dave grew up in the country on the south side of Indianapolis, with his many brothers and sisters. Dave loved to crunch numbers at his desk as an adult, but some may not know that at 14, he became the 1954 Indianapolis Times, Spelling Bee School Champion. He graduated from Franklin Township High School and joined the Indiana National Guard. He went on to work for Allison’s Transmission in Speedway, as a forklift operator in plant 3, for 35 years.

A country boy at heart, Dave never lost his country roots when he met and married his city girl, his “dolly”, Judith “Judy” Milner (née Blumenstock). As Judy would often say: “Dave is just Dave, you can’t take the country out of him.” Dave and Judy were married for 55 years and had four children and six grandchildren, of whom they were so proud. The couple raised their children on the west side of Indianapolis and were former longtime members of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, before moving late in life to Mooresville, Indiana. Dave enjoyed playing games and cards and going to the casino with Judy. They were members of the Speedway 500 Moose Lodge. Dave loved traveling with his family; he would drive across the country and fly across the ocean for new things to see and admire.

Nothing, however, was possibly more important to Dave than the outdoors. Dave was an avid fisherman, who explored the various lakes and reservoirs of Indiana and Michigan on his bass boats throughout the years. He won awards in tournaments of the Poor Man’s Bass Club and displayed proudly the biggest catches of his life: a smallmouth bass and a northern pike.

Dave is preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Judy Milner, parents, John Milner and Mildred Eden, brothers John, Ralph and half-brother Dennis, and sisters: Ruby, Ruth-Ann and Martha (Boo), and a grandson.

Survivors include his children: Michael (Annette) Milner, Christina (Matt) Baker, James (Mitzi) Milner, and Dawn (Sjaak) van Tilborg, as well as five grandchildren, his half-brother Garry and his sister and brother-in-law, Mildred Holloran (née Milner) and Edward Holloran.

In lieu of flowers, Dave requested that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
