David William Whiddon

March 9, 1948 — August 29, 2025

David William Whiddon, 77, of Indianapolis, Indiana, left us peacefully at home on August 29, 2025. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Tracy, and family members. As a beloved husband and son, he will always be remembered for his kindness and loving care to his family and friends. Born on March 9, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, David grew up as the eldest son of the late Oslin David and Shirley Lamour Whiddon along with siblings Richard and Diane.

David graduated from Saint Clair High School in 1966 and went to Michigan State University for two years until he was subsequently drafted into the US Army. David served in Vietnam as a Military Policeman and as an undercover agent for the Criminal Investigation Division from 1969 up until he was honorably discharged in 1971.

After leaving the military, David finished his education at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. He earned an undergraduate degree in Business Administration and continued on to earn a Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in marketing.

David worked for serval major companies including Ford Motor Company in Livonia, Michigan and as a marketing consultant for a large acquisition company in New York City. He retired in 2000 as a Marketing Specialist after 19 years of service for the US Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) in Alexandria, Virginia. During his time at the PTO, David, who played guitar, started a 60’s rock band and played for various events and parties with hundreds of people in attendance.

David was a strong Christian with unwavering faith and belief in Jesus as his savior until the end. He attended the Alexandria Presbyterian Church in Alexandria, Virginia where he developed a strong understanding of the “good news” contained in the Bible.

Upon his retirement, David moved to Indianapolis and occupied his time playing guitar, working around the house, and writing song lyrics to over 40 songs. These included love, country, and gospel songs that were recorded in Nashville, Tennessee and made available for listening on several multi-media platforms.

David met his “wife to be” Tracy Lee Utley, in Indianapolis shortly after his retirement. David was married to the love of his life in Las Vegas on August 18, 2021. Tracy will always have fond memories to how much “he made me laugh” and his positive outlook and optimistic attitude toward life. Throughout their marriage, David and Tracy kept a positive focus. Together they approached challenges with confidence in the Lord and believed that good things will happen. David knew that falling in love and sharing romance later in life was truly a gift from God that shone brightly in the final days of his life.

David is survived by his daughter, Brianna, and his step grandchildren, Maraiya and Madison.
