David T. Ostheimer

October 22, 1932 — September 25, 2021

Indianapolis, IN

David T. Ostheimer, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away on September 25th, 2021. He was born in Acton, Indiana to the late George F. and Charlotte (Pollard) Ostheimer on October 22nd, 1932.

David had a fun childhood, where he went to Acton Elementary School. He fondly remembered all the fun Halloween antics that you could only find in a small town. David went on to go to Warren Central High School where he and his brothers established hurdling records. They honed their techniques by jumping “peach basket” hurdles down the lane to the woods by their house.

After graduating high school David went on to go to Purdue University studying Agricultural, until he was drafted to serve his country. David proudly served in the Air Force and fought in the Korean War. After serving his country he realized that his military benefits made it possible to attend Tri-State University where he earned a degree in Civil Engineering.

David held various careers in Engineering and Construction after graduating. After his retirement, he opened his own hardware store, Leland Hardware, in Wanamaker, Indiana. The hardware store was a satisfying and pleasant experience, and there wasn’t a single day that he “dreaded going to work.” Eventually the loss of his wife, the coming of the “big box” stores, and his age all combined to determine that he would have to close Leland Hardware.

He was a life member of the VFW, the American Legion, and the Franklin Township Historical Society.

David felt fortunate and thankful for all the family, friends, and circumstances that shaped and shared his life journey!

He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn L. Ostheimer; and brother Dr. George J. Ostheimer, both David and his brother passed on the same day.

He is survived by his brother Robert S. Ostheimer (Sherry), and companion Miriam J. Curran.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 4th from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East. Services will begin directly after. David will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
