Fishers

David Michael Stephens, 66, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully at his home in Fishers on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at 8:22 p.m.

David was born on October 4, 1958, in Milwaukee, WI, to the late Thomas and Doris Stephens. On July 3, 1985, he married the love of his life, Rose Mary Whobrey, and together they built a life centered on love, laughter, and family.

A dedicated and hardworking man, David spent many years as a draftsman with Puritan Bennett before transitioning later in life to work in the deli of a local grocery store. Regardless of the role, David worked with pride and diligence, traits that he has passed down to his son.

He had a deep passion for the simple joys in life—fishing, watching NASCAR, cheering on his favorite baseball teams, and most of all, spending time with those he loved. David especially cherished his role as "Papaw" to his two grandchildren, Wesley (12) and Cassidy (9). Whether cheering from the stands at Wesley’s baseball games or admiring Cassidy’s latest colorful creations, his pride in them was immeasurable.

David is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Rose Mary; their son, Thomas (Brigette) A. Stephens; his beloved grandchildren, Wesley and Cassidy; his brother, Gregory Stephens; and his sister, Leslie Geller. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Doris.

David will be remembered for his light-heartedness, strong work ethic, and unwavering love for his family. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 16th, at Flanner Buchanan-Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Conner Suite), 9700 Allisonville Rd. Indianapolis, from 10:30am to 11:30am. Funeral services will begin there at 11:30am David’s family invites all to stay for lunch and fellowship after the service.
