David V. Shireman, age 83 of Indianapolis, IN passed away on Friday afternoon, January 16, 2026.
David was born on December 10, 1942 in New Albany, IN, a son of Stoy Lancen and Golda Marie (Groft) Shireman.
He was one of four children.
He is survived by his sister: Mrs. Sheila Harris of Oaklandon, Indiana.
He is preceded in death by two brothers: John Shireman and Bob Shireman.
David married Jane McPhillips on November 24, 1962, in New Middletown, Indiana. They shared 50 years of marriage until Jane preceded him in death on September 21, 2013
David is survived by his daughter: Theresa (husband Mick) Hammersley of Indianapolis, and his son: David (wife Gwen) Shireman of Clarksville, TN.
His grandchildren: Jamie (husband Kurtis) Gilbert and Amber (husband Lonnie) Steinmetz.
Great grandchildren: Anthony Boggs, Jayda Boggs, Hunter Miller, Haley Miller, and Harmony Steinmetz.
David grew up in Corydon, Indiana. He attended high school at Corydon High School and graduated in the class of 1960.
After high school he moved to Indianapolis and worked as a mechanic at Jasper Transmission before moving to Allison Transmission in 1961. Throughout his professional career he worked as a journeyman mechanic at Allison Transmission at both the Tibbs Avenue and Speedway plants. He retired from there in 1991.
After retirement, he worked for St Ann’s Church, Friendswood Golf Course, Buffer Park Golf Course and Napa Auto Parts.
In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, Jeopardy, crossword puzzles, working on cars, traveling, and visiting with his friends and grandkids. He was a long-time member of St Ann’s Church for over 50 years and had many friends there. He was known to enjoy a Miller Lite now and then.
He will be remembered for his love of auto mechanics and woodworking, his family and friends and eternally his wife, Jane.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, January 23, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Ann Catholic Church, located at 6350 S. Mooreville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46221.
Father Liam Hosty will officiate.
Following the mass will be a time of visitation from 12:00 Noon to 6:00 PM also at St. Ann Catholic Church.
Cremation Rites will be accorded after the mass and visitation.
Inurnment will be held at Most Precious Blood Catholic Cemetery in New Middletown, Indiana at a later date where David will be placed to rest with his wife Jane.
