David M. Scheffel

David M. Scheffel, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, January 15, 2024, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.

His family includes his wife of 67 years Nancy J. Scheffel; three children Debbie (Mike) Griggs, Doug (LaRessa), David (Monica); six grandchildren Heather (Matt) Scheffel, Justin (Kristen) Scheffel, Eric (Ashley) Scheffel, Austin Griggs, and Lexie (Anthony) Giacin; and seven great-grandchildren McKenzie, Avery, Alivia, Griffin, Jay, Ryland, and Jackson. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Miles and Selma Scheffel, and his sister Susie Rader.

David was born June 7, 1935, in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was a graduate of Ben Davis High School. After graduation he enlisted in the US Navy Reserves where he served for eight years. He was employed by Eli Lilly and Company for 40 years in capsule manufacturing. 

David loved being with his family; was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin with his sons & grandsons. He also had many fishing buddies. In his retirement, he loved woodworking and making lots of keepsakes. You would often find him walking at Eagle Creek Park with his dog, Alli.

Private services were held at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway with interment at West Ridge Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Indianapolis Humane Society.
