David Richards

David Russell Richards, 84, of Indianapolis, IN, died August 31, 2011. He was born in Birmingham, England, to the late Frederick H. and Doris (Gibbs) Richards on April 27, 1927. David received his BA at Oxford University and graduate degree from the Institute of Political Science, Paris. He served in the Royal Navy, a branch of the British Armed Forces. As a young man, David worked as a journalist for Reuters news agency in Paris. Upon emigrating to the United States he worked in corporate communications for Eli Lilly & Co. for 24 years, followed by 10 years as Vice President, Corporate Communications, Methodist Hospital. He also became a U.S. Citizen on January 25 th 1964. During his retirement years he wrote weekly book reviews for The Indianapolis Star. He was a Master Gardner and a member of the Literary Club. In November of 1981, David married Fran Watson who survives him. In addition to his wife, David is survived by his children, Maryse Richards (Brandon Taylor) of Chicago, Michael Richards (Rita Brogan) of Seattle, stepchildren Mark Watson, Carol Watson Cheesman (Bill), Kathryn Watson (Jeffrey Martin), Doug Watson (Linda), David Watson, nine grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. A service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 6 at St. Francis in the Fields Episcopal Church, 1525 Mulberry Street, Zionsville, IN with a reception immediately following.
