David Gwin Stevens, 78, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 13, 2025. Born in Noblesville, Indiana, on June 9, 1947, David lived a life marked by kindness, humor, and deep connection to those around him.
A graduate of Noblesville High School, Class of 1965, David was affectionately nicknamed “Spider” during his youth for his tall, lean stature. He began his career at Chrysler in 1968, where he worked until his retirement in 2001. Among co-workers, he was fondly known as “Twig”.
David’s character exemplified the very best of humanity; he was good-hearted, thoughtful, and kind. His quick wit and humor brought joy to all who knew him. He consistently wove humor into everyday conversation, creating moments of laughter and joy wherever he went.
A lifelong enthusiast of music and a devoted Indiana University fan, David found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was often seen with a Coca-Cola in hand and spent his leisure time immersed in activities he loved: playing basketball, mastering Euchre, playing video games, reading Stephen King novels, and dining out with friends and family. Above all, he cherished time spent with loved ones, creating memories filled with laughter and warmth.
David’s greatest passion was dancing, a pursuit that led him to the love of his life, Rita Kay (Veal) Stevens. They met through Indy Dancers, an organization David helped establish, and their shared love of dance blossomed into a lifelong partnership. David and Rita married in 1986 and built a life together grounded in friendship and genuine love.
David is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Rita; children Kimberly S. Winkelman (Martin), Robert M. Alexander (Carol), Christina L. Alexander, and Phillip S. Alexander (Carol); ten grandchildren; sister Julie L. Gray; brothers Christopher R. Stevens, Mike K. Stevens (Valarie), and Jeff A. Stevens (Helen); and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Betty Lou (Brown) Stevens; his daughter, Andrea D. Stevens; his sister, Rebecca L. Stevens; and several cherished nieces and nephews.
David will be remembered for the joy he brought into every room, the friendships he nurtured, and the love he gave so freely. His spirit lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
