David Fairbanks Causey
84, of Carmel, died peacefully on August 16, 2014. Dave attended Berkshire and Park Academies. Dave and his twin brother Dean were owners of Cricklewood Farms which was implemental in many new farming techniques, including hydroponics. In the early 50's he and his brother built a dirt racing track on their farm which led them to their lifetime involvement in racing. Dave became a member of the Indianapolis region of S.C.C.A in 1956, four years later he won his first major race at the Road America 500. Ten years later he was fourth in points for the Canadian-American Challenge Cup, a major feat for an independent driver. He was a longtime member of the Twilight Optimist Club. He enjoyed watching westerns, boating, fishing, gardening and the comfort of family and friends. Dave was a generous, hardworking and fun loving individual. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Barbara and later in life companion, Barbara Curry. He is survived by his children; David Causey, Susan (Bill) McAdams, Tom Causey and Diane Simmerman, grandchildren; Shayna, Alesha, Molly, Will, Maggie, Abby, Ellie, Adam and C.J., several great-grandchildren, sisters; Ruth Johnson, Lucy Grisham and Angela McMillan, sister-in-law, Patty Watson, several nieces and nephews. He was grandson of Vice President Charles Warren Fairbanks and son-in-law to Paul D. "Tony" Hinkle. Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Flanner and Buchanan Broad Ripple. Services will be Friday, August 22, 2014 at 1 p.m. with calling hour prior at the funeral center. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Hamilton County Humane Society.
