David A. Reed

David A. Reed, 81, of Carmel passed away April 9, 2022.  He was born May 10, 1940, in Elkhart, the son of the late Arthur E. and Betty J. (Herren) Reed.  He married Elizabeth (Little) Reed who preceded him in passing on December 28, 2019, after 57 years of marriage.  He is with her now, and they are both happy again.

David was a skilled craftsman, showcasing his talents with woodworking and making furniture.  He enjoyed bowling, antiquing, gardening, and was President of the Jim Brainard Fan Club.  Being a member of the boat racing pit crew, mushroom hunting in Michigan, being the co-pilot of some small aircraft deliveries, were also great memories for Dave. Anything involved with IU sports, and Colts football were a passion for him.   Even though he enjoyed chasing the squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and anything else out of his garden, he was a longtime supporter of the Indianapolis Zoo.

One of the best parts of his past was his caring and interest in everybody.  Anybody he met knew how great a person Dave was.

The most incredible part of his legacy was the love he showed to his grandchildren, and his attendance at every event he could.  Wherever, whenever, early, late, rain, shine, cold, hot, snow, Grandpa was there.

He is survived by two sons, Mark David (Wendy) Reed and Gregory Curtis (Amanda) Reed; sister, Nancy (Daniel) Kirts; and six grandchildren, Brian (Hannah) Reed, Scott Reed, Kelli Reed, Cameron Reed, Malana Ervin, and Myah Ervin.

Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive.  Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Indianapolis Zoo, 1200 West Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222-0309.  Online condolences may be shared by visiting flannerbuchanan.com.
