Daryl Jay Dean, 83, passed away on March 27, 2023, in Zionsville, IN. He grew up on a dairy farm in western PA. Daryl graduated as the Valedictorian and the President of Lakeview High School in 1957. In 1963, he went on to graduate from Grove City College in Grove City, PA.
After college, he began working at Aetna Insurance in Hartford, CT until he was hired by The Nyhart Co. in Indianapolis, IN in 1968. Daryl went on to become President and CEO of The Nyhart Co. before retiring.
In addition to being a member of the Optimist Club, through Daryl’s generous contributions and efforts, he helped to grow the Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville.
He enjoyed travelling in his RV to Florida and spending free time playing golf and fishing.
Daryl was preceded in death by his mother and father, brothers Noel Dean and Gordon Rickert, and sister Donna Montgomery.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley, sons Fr. Maximilian and Jason (Stacey Sweitzer), daughter Nikki Asbury (John), grandchildren Cole Asbury, Hannah Asbury, Faith Dean, and Ty Macy, sisters Ruth Slater, Bonnie Smith, Martha Slater Ryan, and Berdella Wimer, and brothers Keith Rickert, Hoye Rickert, and Larry Rickert.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, and “papaw.”
Visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan – Zionsville, 105 W. Pine St., Zionsville, IN 46077 on Friday, March 31, 2023, from 4pm – 8pm and Saturday, April 1, 2023 from 10am-11am with a funeral service to follow at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, please make a memorial contribution in Daryl’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association (Greater Indiana Chapter), Regional Mail Hub, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr Ave, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631.
