Darrin Jay Buffington, 55, of Fishers, Indiana, passed away on May 14, 2026. He was born on December 11, 1970, in Paoli, Indiana, to parents, Terry and Wanda (Emmons) Buffington.
Darrin lived a life defined by curiosity, generosity and a boundless love for the people around him. His love for his family and friends was profound and unwavering. He cherished his wife and daughter above all, holding them close with deep affection and devotion. His friendships were equally meaningful — he was the kind of person who showed up, listened deeply, and loved without hesitation.
Darrin had an unmatched gift for remembering movie quotes and an extraordinary knowledge of music across every genre. His love of learning extended far beyond the classroom studies — he was an avid reader who devoured books of every kind. Whether it was history, literature, or obscure trivia, Darrin absorbed it all with joy, able to recall names, places, and historic dates with astonishing clarity. His mind was a library, and sharing what he learned was one of the many ways he connected with the people he loved.
Darrin was a lifelong learner, dedicating himself to education with remarkable enthusiasm. His academic achievements were impressive and diverse: a business degree from the Kelly School of Business; a bachelor's in microbiology from Indiana University; and degrees in biology and chemistry from Vincennes University. Furthering his expertise, he earned an MBA in Management and Entrepreneurship and became a certified CPA – proudly embracing the title “the world’s greatest accountant”.
With profound love and enduring respect, we remember a man whose life was shaped by strength, kindness, and a deep sense of compassion. Darrin had a generous heart, exemplified by his consistent donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. Understanding the importance of supporting children in need, he gave wholeheartedly, regardless of the amount. Even in his passing, Darrin chose to give selflessly as an organ donor, offering the gift of life to others. His legacy lives not only in the hearts of his family and friends, but also in the lives he saved – people he would never meet, yet forever touched. Through this final act of generosity, his spirit continues forward, bringing hope, healing and light to others.
An avid sports enthusiast, Darrin found great joy in following the Indianapolis Colts and watching football. This passion brought him excitement, connection and a sense of belonging.
Darrin is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Mayya Buffington; his daughter, Mirabella Buffington; his parents, Terry and Wanda Buffington; sister, Dara (Don McCloud) Buffington; nephew Kaleb (LaShona) Buffington; niece Lindsie (Andrew) Tillet; and many other family members and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Tracy Dawn Buffington; son, Braden Wilson; and his brother, Eric Buffington.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 11am - 3pm at Sagamore Country Club. Address, with food being served starting at 12pm: 10900 Golden Bear Way, Noblesville, IN 46060.
