Darlene J. Allen

Darlene J. Allen, 90, of Indianapolis, passed away on May 20, 2026. She was born on October 25, 1935, to Leonard Thurman Costelow and Lois Adeline (Kelley) Costelow.

Darlene lived a long and blessed life, marked by hard work and a spirited love of friendly competition. A talented and skilled beautician, she graduated from the House of James Beauty School and worked proudly in her profession for many years before retiring.

She married William Allen, with whom she shared a loving partnership until his passing. Darlene was a woman of faith and attended Northview Christian Church on occasion.

Service to others was important to her. She volunteered at Community East Hospital and spent time helping in the cafeteria at Warren Central High School, where her steady reliability was appreciated.

Darlene had a competitive streak that brought joy to those around her. She loved playing cards and Scrabble, always ready for a good challenge and a good laugh. She also adored her grandpups — Izzy Sue, Lucy Lou, and Dax — who brought her endless comfort and companionship.

She is survived by her children, Bill Allen and Terri (Richard) Pruyne; and her grandchildren, Amanda Spearing and Jennifer Allen.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; her sister, Bonnie Ballard; and her granddaughter, Jessica Allen.

Services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Flanner Buchanan – Memorial Park, 9350 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46229. Public Visitation will be held from 12:00–2:00 p.m. A funeral Service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Darlene will be laid to rest in Memorial Park Cemetery.
