Daniel Ralston Taylor, 70, of Carmel, Ind., died Friday at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Jan. 16, 1947, in St. Louis, Mo., to Robert Daniel and June Alice Crump Taylor.
He graduated from St. Elizabeth High School, Pittsburgh, Pa., in 1965 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Dayton in 1978.
Dan was a man of strong faith, a member of Our Lady of Mt Carmel church. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and any activities his children or grandchildren were involved in.
He worked more than 40 years in the food service industry with both large and small companies, most notably Subway restaurants which he owned and operated for 30 years. He ran his businesses with the motto “Do whatever it takes to make the customer happy.”
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kathleen; brother Peter (Cathie) Taylor of Pittsburgh, Pa.; daughters Karen Taylor of Louisville, Ky. and Lisa Aldin (Chris), of Fishers; son Robby Taylor of Lexington, Ky.; two granddaughters, Charlotte and Anna Aldin; in laws Stan and Nancy Riggenbach, and Ed and Nancy Goedde; 8 nephews and 2 nieces, Mark Taylor, Maria Taylor, Jeff ( Kristin) Taylor, Nonna Taylor, Tom ( Heather) Riggenbach, Brian (Sara) Riggenbach, Brad ( Elisha) Riggenbach, Dave ( Andrea) Riggenbach, Ryan ( Stephanie) Reindel, and Scott ( Lauren) Goedde; and 13 grand-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Larry Taylor and Timothy Taylor.
A smart and clever businessman, he was most well-known for his unique sense of humor and his love for his family, friends and faith. Many considered him a safety net and trusted source for advice and wisdom. Advice usually came with a healthy dose of his dry wit.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 14598 Oakridge Road, Carmel.
