Daniel I. Landis, age 85 of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Saturday morning, October 7, 2023.
Dan was born on February 19, 1938 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, a son of Daniel Isaac and Esther Mae (Myers) Landis.
He married Emily Painter in May of 1959 in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife Emily Landis of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He is also survived by two sons: James Landis and Jon Landis, both of Fishers, Indiana.
Two brothers: Paul Landis of New York and Jim Landis of Pennsylvania.
He is preceded in death by two sisters: Esther and Mary Ellen, and one brother: Charles.
Dan grew up in Lancaster County, PA and Sussex County, NJ. He graduated high school at Hempfield H.S. 1956. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Goshen College, IN. He studied at the Foreign Language Institute at Indiana University, 1964, the Institute for Advanced Study of German, University of Scranton, PA 1968 and his Masters degree in German from Indiana University.
Spent his career in teaching, English at Mishawaka High School, IN, and German and English at Warren Central High School, Indianapolis.
In his retirement he substitute taught in Carmel Clay and Lawrence township schools.
His passions and reading interests were on cars and motor sports, astronomy, ancient civilizations, philosophy, suspense novels, the Bible in multiple languages and translations, Bible prophecy, German literature, etc. Dan was a wealth of knowledge on many different topics and languages.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Washington Park East Cemetery, located at 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229.
All guests are asked to meet and gather at 1:30 PM at Flanner Buchanan Washington Park East Funeral Center located at 10722 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46229. Following the gathering, everyone in attendance will process out to the gravesite for a 2:00 PM graveside service.
Senior Pastor Chuck Circle of the Franklin Road Baptist Church will officiate.
