Daniel “Poppy” Kremer, 87, also lovingly known as Dad, Dan, Danny, and Uncle Danny, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, including his wife, two daughters, grandchildren, and other cherished family members.
Dan was born on May 15, 1938, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Raymond and Dott (Dunham) Kremer. A lifelong Hoosier, he spent most of his life in Indiana. He graduated from Shortridge High School and attended Butler University before proudly serving in the United States Army.
Following his military service, Dan dedicated more than 30 years of his career to Allison Transmission, retiring in 1992. Never one to slow down, he went on to spend the next decade working in a mailroom and later delivering flowers—work he truly enjoyed and took pride in.
More than his professional life, Dan will be remembered for the man he was to those who knew and loved him. The heart of his family, he was a devoted husband of 55 years, father, grandfather, brother, son and uncle. He was truly a salt-of-the-earth man—loyal, steady, nurturing, and deeply committed to his family. He was their rock, and his presence will be profoundly missed.
In his free time, Dan found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He could often be found tinkering in the garage, working in the yard, playing with his children and later his grandchildren, or sharing laughs with family and friends. In his younger years, he loved boating, spending time on the beach, and being outdoors—especially enjoying the warmth of an Indiana summer. In retirement, Dan embraced a casual style, often spotted in his favorite Chuck Taylor low-top sneakers, and was always happy to sneak a bite of White Castle.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Dott Kremer, and his sister, Mary Virginia Kirkhoff.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Alicia (MacAbee) Kremer; daughters Suzi Kremer (Chuck Gearhart) and Lori Kremer (Mike Heilig); and his cherished grandchildren, Rilee Hartman, Reese Hartman, Britton Bucklew, and Mikayla Heilig.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Please watch this space for updates.
