Dale Howard DeVries, 65, peacefully entered heaven with his family by his side on October 8, 2023. He was born on May 27, 1958, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Harvey and Greta (DeVrou) DeVries.
Dale attended Wyoming Public Schools where he enjoyed his many friendships and athletics. He spent most of his career at Acosta Sales & Marketing.
A man of many passions and interests, Dale found solace in the great outdoors. He enjoyed riding his e-bike along the area’s scenic trails, enjoying the beauty of nature and listening to his country and Christian playlists. Additionally, Dale had a profound love for golf dating back to his youth where he enjoyed playing with his friends, coaches, and family. His children learned the game while they were still very young, driving the carts when the pros weren’t watching. The thrill of a straight, long drive and the sound of a putt dropping into the cup brought him immense joy, especially if it produced one stroke less than his opponents. Dale also loved shooting skeet. His accuracy and competitive spirit brought a solid percentage of perfect rounds. He would talk and laugh with his team until he was up, then his focus and determination took over. His longest run was 185 targets straight. Additionally, he found peace, joy, and encouragement by attending church and after covid never missed a Sunday via online services. His faith meant everything to him.
His kids couldn’t have asked for a better dad. He set the standard high. He often said, “Do the right things for the right reasons,” and he lived his life that way. Everyone who knew him benefited from his wisdom, kindness, and personable demeanor. He could bring humor and laughter into any situation. He always knew how to make people feel comfortable, and he always knew when it was time to speak up. He was a leader, and a courageous peacemaker—unafraid of conflict in order for true amends to be made. He was a catalyst of perseverance and persistence, yet he was so gentle and loving. He fought hard against the trials of his health for years. He didn’t want to die, and he didn’t want to leave us behind, but he was not afraid. He was faithful, he was peaceful, and he was confident in his legacy and his role of provision he established for his family.
Dale was a hero and best friend to his son and daughter. He would always say he was a dad before being their best friend, but truly, he was both. His wise words and quick wit will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Karen DeVries; children, Katherine DeVries (Ben Hughey) and Michael DeVries; his brother, Dean DeVries (Cindy); his father-in-law Thomas Croskey (Elaine) along with many in-laws, nieces and nephews; as well as his very special Aunts, Cid Kaat and Louis D’Amato.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harvey & Greta DeVries, as well as Norma Croskey.
