Dale A. Willman, 73, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on August 19, 2023, surrounded by family.
Dale was born to Maxine and Wilbur Willman, on September 27, 1949, in Hartford City Indiana. He graduated from Marion High School in 1968. He is survived by his wife Christine Chambers Willman; three sons Eric (Cathy) Willman – Christopher, Sam, and Jacob – Brownsburg; Ryan (Amy) Willman – Alexis, Kaylee, and Jeremiah – Avon; Karl (Erica) Willman – Cole and Bryce – Fishers; as well as three brothers: Dean (Jan) in Fishers, Dave (Jill) in Arizona, Jon (Betty) in Marion; and multiple nieces and nephews.
He graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a degree in Math in 1972, and a Master’s degree from Indiana University in 1974. He started his career teaching at Ivy Tech in Ft. Wayne, where he set up and ran their first computer lab. In 1979, he moved to Indianapolis where he worked at Dow Chemical for nearly 30 years. He then worked for Pike Township Fire Department for 5 years.
He loved golf and umpiring for the Little League, including having umpired for the Little League World Series in 2008. He served the church through multiple committees, being the computer ‘guru’ as well as being the financial secretary for nearly 30 years. He also loved serving his church through music: singing in the church choir, playing trumpet and hand bells, as well as composing numerous musical arrangements.
The visitation with friends and family is 5-7 p.m. Friday, September 1, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Speedway at 2950 N. High School Road in Indianapolis. Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 2, 2023, at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, 6118 Crawfordsville Rd, Speedway, IN. Dale will be interred at West Ridge Park Cemetery.
