Constance Lynn (Clark) Summe, 65, concluded her struggle with ovarian cancer when she went to be with our Lord on Sunday, January 22. Connie was born June 6, 1946, on the west side of Indianapolis. She lived from birth through high school in the Ben Davis area. She graduated from Ben Davis High School in 1964. While at Ben Davis she was accorded many honors including National Honor Society, Mask and Gavel, and vice president of student council. She was also a member of Booster Club, GAA, Flag Corps, and Latin Club as well as cheerleader, senior homecoming attendant, Junior Miss finalist, and Track Queen. Connie earned a bachelors and masters in education from Indiana University. While at IU Connie was chosen as a member of Mortar Board, a national honor society recognizing seniors for exemplary scholarship, leadership and service and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She was a pom-pom girl for two years and cheerleader during her junior and senior year (highlighted by the 1968 Rose Bowl). She was also PEMM Club president and a member of the Military Ball Court. She taught one year at North Central High School and then moved to Kalamazoo, Michigan early in her first marriage to Paul Elliott. She married Richard Summe in 1978. They first made their home in Indianapolis. In 1988 they moved to Zionsville Indiana. Upon return to Indianapolis she taught physical education and coached at North Central High School. Included in her achievements was coaching a state championship girls' tennis team. Her constant concern for others and her cheerful spirit allowed her to make friends of everyone she met. She was a member and usher of St. Lukes United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Richard Summe of Zionsville; daughters, Amy Elliott, Deborah Igleski, and Karen Watkins; grandchildren, Catherine Watkins, Connor Smith and Joseph Igleski; mother, Ruth Clark; brother Greg Clark, of Lexington, Kentucky, his wife Jeanne and their two sons, Brian and Jeff, and their daughter, Kellie Miller. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at St. Lukes United Methodist Church on Monday, February 20, 2012 at 1:30 pm. All of her friends are invited to the memorial service and reception afterward. Memorial contributions are preferred in lieu of flowers. Her favorite recipients would be Ovar'coming Together, Inc., St. Lukes United Methodist Church, Summit Preparatory School in Kalispell, Montana; and Covenant Christian High School in Indianapolis.
