Zionsville

Constance “Connie” Moore, age 100, of Zionsville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 23, 2023.

Connie was born on May 8, 1923, to Charles and Inez (Beck) Newman in Chicago, Illinois. For most of her childhood years she lived in Chicago and rural Wheeler, Indiana. She graduated from Wheeler High School in 1941. After graduation she married 1940 Wheeler graduate Merlyn “Buck” Moore, to whom she was married for thirty-nine years, raising three children together. During those years she was employed as a secretary with East Gary Edison High School and as an investigator for the Social Security Administration. She continued her career with the United States Railroad Retirement Board working in Indianapolis, Cleveland, and Chicago, where in 1987 she retired as District Manager. Soon after her retirement she took up China painting which became her joy and passion for the next thirty plus years. She was an accomplished China painter, taking lessons from renowned artists from around the world, and was a member of the Indiana-World Organization of China Painters. Connie also loved to travel, with trips to Southeast Asia and Europe. She often said her most favorite trip was visiting Israel and the Holy Land.

Constance is survived by her son Merlyn “Doug” (Pamela) Moore, daughter Nancee (Tom) Kinghorn, daughter-in-law Carol Moore, and sister-in-law Lil (Newman) Genge. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. She is survived by seven grandchildren: Jennifer (Michael) Martin, Jill (Scott) Arnold, Jacquelyn (Kevin) Dakin, Tom (Nichole) Kinghorn, Deborah Linegar, Jered (Michelle) Moore, and Quinn (Lisa) Moore. She is further survived by sixteen great-grandchildren and many other extended family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Bob and Jack Newman, sister Joan Terwilliger, brother-in-law Jerry Terwilliger, sister-in-law Jean (Newman) Brown, son Craig Moore, grandson Lance Moore, and grandson-in-law Tim Linegar.

Connie’s family would like to thank the personnel of Restoracy of Whitestown and Gentiva Hospice Avon for their support and care – and a very special thanks to her daughter-in-law Carol and good friend Paula for always being there to meet her every need and their unconditional love and support of Connie.
