Clifton Elmer Johnson, 63 passed away April 25, 2018. He was the cherished husband of Janet Johnson, and is survived by son Andrew (Brianna), grandson Walter, and son Scott (Heather), as well as sister Barbara, and brothers David and Wayne.
Cliff was born October 24, 1954 in Lima, Ohio to Ralph and Orma Johnson. Cliff was active in the Boy Scouts of America achieving the rank of Eagle and later volunteering with his own sons and helping them earn their Eagle badges. He spent a year in South Africa in 1972 as an AFS exchange student which inspired a lifetime of travel and adventure.
After meeting in college, he married Janet Marie Scheutzow on July 29, 1978. Cliff graduated from Ohio Northern University. He then went to Syracuse University earning a Juris Doctor and a Masters in Business Administration. He returned to ONU to sit on the business school advisory board for many years.
Cliff started his law career as an Assistant Attorney General for the state of Ohio. He then became Toledo Hospital’s first in house attorney. Building on his experience in healthcare he became a partner at the law firm of Hall Render. He loved the law and all those with whom he practiced.
Moving to Indianapolis, Cliff became an avid race fan and loved the Colts, attending both of their recent Super Bowl appearances. Cliff and Janet had wonderful friends and family. Together they enjoyed cooking, entertaining and new food experiences.
Cliff and his wife were active members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Indianapolis where his memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 3rd at 2:00 p.m. A celebration of life reception will take place at the Indianapolis Yacht Club following the service, from 3:00-6:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Wheeler Mission or the Julian Center.
