Clifford Channing Ellery, Sr., of Carmel, Indiana, passed away on May 13, 2024, surrounded by his wife and children. Cliff was born on June 30, 1932 in Tionesta, Pennsylvania, to Harry Clifford and Hilda Wohlleb Ellery. A child of the Great Depression, Cliff embraced a strong work ethic to build a future. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in engineering. Upon graduation, Cliff proudly served in the United States Air Force, achieving his Jet Jockey certification in 1955. After being honorably discharged from the service, he embarked on a career as a metallurgical engineer with U.S. Steel. That career eventually brought him to Indiana, where he proudly raised his family as Hoosiers.
Cliff is predeceased by his parents, siblings Bill and Nancy, son Christopher, and grandson Patrick. He is survived by his sister Lauren, his children, Cliff, Liz (Eldred) Macdonell, Becky (Mark) Burgbacher, Debbie (David) Baran, Kathy (John) Bodine, Will (Jenny), and Rich (Kari), as well as 18 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Joanne, his loving wife of 65 years, with whom he travelled the world, built the home of their dreams, and proudly watched their large family achieve in varied professions. Cliff was a model of integrity, honesty, and fierce loyalty to his family.
Cliff was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 22 at 11:00 am. Family and friends are invited to gather at the church from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass.
Memorial contributions may be made to Child’s Play or the Malaria Consortium.
Child's Play ( https://childsplaycharity.org/ ) is dedicated to improving the lives of children with toys and games in a network of over 185 hospitals worldwide. Therapeutic play was a source of great joy for Patrick while undergoing chemotherapy.
The Malaria Consortium ( www.malariaconsortium.org ) specializes in the prevention, control and treatment of malaria and other communicable diseases. Through such interventions, thousands of families worldwide can be spared from experiencing the illness or death of a child.
