Cleva Hartle Duncan
99, of Indianapolis, passed away on March 5, 2012 in Zionsville Meadows Nursing Facility. Cleva was born on January 16, 1913 to Ferdinand and Edith Hall in Morral, Ohio.
The center of Cleva's life was God, her beloved family and her church. She was an active member of First Meridian Heights Presbyterian Church for 70 years. She cared and served others through her church and in her volunteer work in the Indianapolis community. She was a 40 year volunteer member of Easter Seals Crossroad's Rehabilitation Center, aided in the ground work for the beginning of the Children's Museum and was a "Pink Lady" for Winona Hospital in the 1970's.
Cleva had talent and love for music. She played the piano and sang in the church choir for over 30 years. She was an avid gardener, creative seamstress and an excellent cook. She loved to entertain for her family and friends and her home was always open for any guests. She also had a gift of writing, and one of her proudest accomplishments was her history of her church, which was completed when she was 92 years old.
Cleva's greatest gift was her gift of love, wisdom and caring for others. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother until 99 years plus. "Gram" we will miss you.
She is survived by her daughters, Ann Phend and Sue (Dick) Wrobleski; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John C. Hartle, who passed away in 1953; second husband, Ralph E. Duncan, who passed away in 1972 and step-daughters, Carolyn Duncan Fox and Jenny Lind Combs.
Her daughters wish to thank Zionsville Meadows and Advocate Hospice for their sensitive and wonderful care of their mom.
